Brotowali (Tinospora tuberculata Beumee)

Brotowali is a medicinal plant that can be used as traditional medicine for treating various diseases inside and outside. Brotowali also called Tinospora crispa (L.) Miers or Tinospora Tinospora tuberculata rumphii or belonging to the plant family Menispermaceae. The plant is also known by the name of the region Andawali, antawali, bratawali, putrawali or leaf gadel.


Skin-trunk containing substances such as alkaloids and resin is soft yellow root contains berberine and kolumbin. The content of alkaloids berberina useful for killing bacteria in the wound. Pikroretin bitter substances can stimulate the nerves so that a respirator to work properly and to accelerate the exchange of substances that can reduce the heat.

Aside from being a drug, brotowali also serves as an addition to appetite and lowers blood sugar levels. As a drug, plain brotowali boiled and drunk or smeared on the skin for wounds. Diseases can be treated using brotowali is rheumatic arthritis, rheumatic hip joints, fever, yellow fever, diabetes, malaria, diabetes, and also outside of diseases such as bruises, scabies and wounds.

In Bali, the trunk is used as an upset stomach, fever and jaundice, even as a liniment to treat back pain and waist. In Java, boiled water is used in case of fever Seven, and topically for wounds and itching.
